3 best and “three” worst cars, according to the European Committee of independent crash tests for 2018
Euro NCAP is an organization that breaks dozens of cars every year, evaluating their active and passive safety. All this is done to reduce the level of death in road traffic accidents. So, in the past 2018 Euro NCAP specialists tested 23 cars. Further in the review – three best and three worst cars according to the results of Euro NCAP tests in 2018.
The safest cars of 2018
Third place
In third place is the Audi Q3. The car, of course, received the maximum 5 stars. Ratings for individual safety categories are distributed as follows:
– Protection of adult passengers – 95%;
– Child protection – 86%;
– Pedestrian protection – 76%;
– Active remedies – 85%.
Euro NCAP specialists noted the high level of driver’s knees and hips protection regardless of anthropometric data, as well as good protection against whiplash injuries. You can scold a car only for the level of pedestrian safety, which could be better.
Second place
The second in 2018 was the Lexus ES, which received the following ratings:
– Protection of adult passengers – 91%;
– Child protection – 87%;
– Pedestrian protection – 90%;
– Active remedies – 77%.
The car showed a high level of protection for all major body parts of the driver and passengers, but was fined for the fact that the rear seat belts could not keep the passenger in the seat. Also, the points were reduced for improper operation of the airbag in a side impact. However, despite these penalties, the car showed an extremely high level of security.
First place
The safest car in 2018 was the Mercedes-Benz A-Class with the following results:
– Protection of adult passengers – 96%;
– Child protection – 91%;
– Pedestrian protection – 92%;
– Active remedies – 75%.
The car showed an excellent level of safety of all major parts of the body. The experts especially appreciated the safety of a side impact.
The top three anti-leaders in safety in 2018 open three related cars from different brands that are built on the same platform, have the same body and technical characteristics – Citroen Berlingo / Peugeot Rifter / Vauxhall Combo. They got 4 stars, which in general is not so bad. However, in essence, these cars show a decent level of protection only for adult passengers. For the rest of the evaluation indicators for cars are extremely mediocre:
– Protection of adult passengers – 91%;
– Child protection – 81%;
– Pedestrian protection – 58%;
– Active remedies – 68%.
And this is in 2018, when even the most budget car can and should easily gain 5 stars.
Second place
In second place is the iconic Jeep Wrangler. He received only one star and just awful ratings:
– Protection of adult passengers – 50%;
– Child protection – 51%;
– Pedestrian protection – 49%;
– Active remedies – 32%.
With a frontal impact, despite the frame structure, the power cell of the body was broken. The risk of injury to the driver and the passenger on the instrument panel is high, and the level of load on the chest cells of all passengers from seat belts was too great. Of good it is worth noting a good protection against whiplash injuries of the neck.
The most unsafe car in 2018 with just the result that does not fit in the head to zero stars turned out to be the FIAT Panda urban compact hatchback. Previously, Novate.ru made a list of the best compact hatchbacks.
